Case of the Mondays Cure – Technology Violence Proves a Point

Looking a bit down in your end of February work schedule? Thinking that you might go a little Office Space if you don’t get some kind of release at the start of your work week?

Well, never fear, Overly Positive is here with yet another Case of the Mondays Cure. This time around, I found this really neato article off of a co-worker’s post in Google Buzz (see, it’s useful already). Apparently, one professor out there has a pretty strict policy on gadgets and tech devices in class, including laptops. But how do you prove that you might enforce such a policy with brutal efficiency? Simple – a visual aid:

Well – I’m convinced. Notebook and pen it is!

Case of the Mondays Cure – All Boxed In

The day after Valentine’s is usually a path strewn with empty candy boxes and discarded flower food packets. In these cases, when couples return to a bit of a normal routine and single people breathe a sigh of relief, there’s always a return to the normal, and in some cases, the hilarious.

So whether you felt off about your Valentine’s Day, or you just treated it as another lazy Sunday, I think you’ll appreciate a little randomness involving boxes from our friends at Collegehumor. Check it out:

Case of the Mondays Cure – Star Wars, the Summary (Remastered Edition)

We near the end of the month of January, and going to work or school might seem like it’s the total dumps. When you’re freezing your ass off, finding out there’s no parking, and figuring out how to make it through the day without becoming a total zombie, it’s hard to think of things that are fun and entertaining.

Not to worry, folks, because College Humor decides to soothe your Monday blahs with a little original vid paying homage to Star Wars, an IP guaranteed to bring you into the theaters and make you smile. Still, with all the re-re-re-edited and re-re-re-re-…er, redone stuff, you might seem lost about what has changed. Don’t worry though – the below video will be your beacon of light in your darkened re-edited Star Wars ignorance. Have a good one, folks!

Case of the Mondays Cure – Pop Medley Madness

Tired after all that Christmas cheer and gift giving (and receiving)? Feeling the drag of work after a long layoff? Not to worry, because New Year’s is just a few short days away, heralding with it a brand new year with brand new possibilities (and a lot more Mondays).

What better way to celebrate the end of the year than with a mashup of popular songs that geeks like us claim we don’t listen to? The technical prowess it took to put together the below mashup of the Top 25 Songs of 2009, via College Humor, is impressive no matter if you love Lady GaGa and the Black Eyed Peas or would rather throw them into a volcano. Check it out – and try to groove your way through this dreary Monday with a bunch of songs that will surely get stuck in your head on the drive home:

Case of the Mondays Cure – Glee-ful Goodness

The holiday season is upon us, and with it, the requisite holiday stress. Still, there’s nothing like a good song and a feelgood moment to warm the heart, however briefly. And there’s no other show that does that quite as well right now as Glee.

Even if you’ve never seen the show, this ending to the last part of the mid-season is still kinda sweet to see. This is admittedly low quality, but hey, you take what you can get. So unless you have a piece of coal for a heart, check this out to cheer up your Monday:

Case Of The Mondays Cure – Firelight

There are things that you sometimes need to selectively choose the gems out of and appreciate for what they are. Such as it is with Saturday Night Live. Their set of celebrity-included comedy bits and trademark mainstays has been in competition with other humorous efforts, but they still manage to crank out some consistent laughs in very specific places.

One is in the area of popular culture, so if you’re struggling to get started on your work or school week, well – it could be worse. You could be an adolescent going through their “awkward” period in a complicated world of vampires and werewolves.

Or you could be going through it with this:

Case Of The Mondays Cure – Late Halloween Kitty Fun

On a site-related note, the new webhost should be up, running, and hosting Overly Positive. I wanted to make sure we had full propagation around the ‘Net before I posted again, which explains the lack of posting yesterday. Oops!

Anyway, Monday is here, fond memories of Halloween costume parties are still fresh, but the work week beckons with the usual stressful, dull aura it has. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t have a little fun relating some silly Halloween stories, either. Take, for example, this little piece a friend sent me that an intrepid cat owner put together for Halloween. As a cat owner, I have to say it must have taken some time to get this right.

Happy Monday, everyone! Hope that picked you up for the week.

Case of the Mondays Cure – Best Costume Ever

I’m playing around with certain regular features on Overly Positive, and Case of the Mondays Cure is one of them. While it’s nice to have a few links to interesting geekery to start your Monday morning, I think I find that multimedia might be more effective for cheering you up at the beginning of your week.

So without further ado, here is the best Halloween costume ever, for all my fellow geeks out there. It gets good about 3/4ths of the way in.

Case Of The Mondays Cure – CCTV, Hotties, and Millionaire MUDs

So_Sad_CatAnother Monday, and another set of links about great stories about geekdom. It’s October now, and at least in my region of the world, Fall is in full swing, meaning that a dreary, cold, and depressing morning is common. But that’s where we come in. Here’s some stuff going on around the ‘Net:

New Internet Web-Based Game Has Real Consequences (via GamePolitics): So those folks across the pond in the UK are going to have something to do with the 4 million+ CCTV cameras posted in the country soon. Seems that “Internet Eyes” is designed to utilize the cameras for players to click buttons to report crimes occurring in the country. Clicking the button means a still of the shot is sent to an operator, who will decide what to do next. Watch out, Farmville – this one might give you a run for your money!

Bayonetta Is Hotter Than Your Girlfriend (via Destructoid): I’ve always enjoyed the blatantly irascible writing style of Jim Sterling of Destructoid, but this one is particularly great to read. Upcoming high-octane action and fanservice fest Bayonetta is an anticipated title, and Jim tells you why Bayonetta is the hottest thing since Lara Croft got pixellated.

Text-Based Games Still Got Earning Power (via The Escapist): Some of you may be too young to remember MUDs and what they meant to online gaming, but text-based adventures were a nice little staple of many folks with time to kill back in college. These days, MUDs are a bit forgotten, but apparently, a young 21-year old English developer has earned the equivalent of over a million dollars with his creation, Torn, by allowing interested users to purchase extras for a nominal fee. Break out the Zork, folks – you could be next.

Links, Reviews, Roundups (via Spinksville): It’s probably a good idea to, you know, give some love back to the folks who like to hopefully read this blog for a bit of sunshine. Spinks has a great link roundup that covers a variety of subjects of interest, from Champions Online, to Aion, to MMO design in general. Be sure to check it!

And that’s that for this Monday. Now go off and go do what you do best!

Case of the Mondays Cure – Dueling Guitars,Tagged 360′s, and Real Guns

Sad Puppy Dog Eyes

What’s that? The leaves are falling off the trees? You can’t go out in your bright pink speedo and draw funny looks from the way your junk is displayed? Never fear, Case of the Mondays Cure is here with some neato articles to get your week going.

Modal Kombat Has Begun (via Destructoid): If there’s anything cool about group projects in college, it’s the occasional quirky one that is designed to integrate cool stuff with the assignment. Two guys have created a way to play Mortal Kombat with electric guitars, and while no one is going to be doing fatalities anytime soon, it’s still a cool way to blend audio and visual arts.

Palin-Autographed 360 Back On EBay (via Gamepolitics): Sure, she may have made some infamous verbal faux pas during her run with Senator John McCain for the 2008 elections, but Sarah Palin is still worth something. That’s why an autographed 360 signed by the former Alaskan governor is set at a cool $1.1 million dollars. If you don’t think someone will pay that, then all you need to do is look at the election results to see that there might just be someone crazy enough to get it for the novelty.

Hideo Kojima Has Real Guns (via Kotaku): …and we’re not talking about the fact that he might have a real version of Solid Snake’s silenced pistol, either. No, we’re talking about the organic version of guns, the muscles. Apparently, Hideo’s been pumping the iron, meaning that if you ever get into any kind of confrontation with him, he just might use that famous CQC on you. Headband and mullet optional.

Oh, and speaking of other interesting stuff on Kotaku, one of their readers, PShip, sent this little tidbit in from an NFL game:

Good to know geeks exist even in football.

Have a good week, people!
