I think part of this delta is less a strategy and more the case of the IP being passed around like the keg nozzle at a frat party for a large part of the announced game's life. Cryptic has been working on this project for a relatively short time. Add to that the fact that Cryptic hasn't left the formulaic orbit of their original property, and I think the game is taken less seriously than the Bioware game.

Bioware is as close to being Blizzard as any company out there. They have a history of high-quality games, including one other from the same IP. They have a much more developed and polished product in the minds of the MMO gamer.

I'll go out on a limb here and say that is a safe bet. The chances that the Bioware game stomps a mudhole into the Cryptic game is pretty high.

We're all crazy, Slurm, to some degree. We're geeks, remember?

I dunno - I'd have to say maybe - only because there isn't really an entry for a Star Trek MMO whereas Star Wars already has something in Galaxies, despite the current status. I think there are a lot of people who will try out Star Trek and see if it is worthwhile, if for nothing else for the fact that there isn't really another entry out there atm.

Going to do a little stereotyping, but I think theres some validity:

I'd be willing to bet that there are a great deal more gamers who are Star Wars fans, than there are gamers who are Star Trek Fans. Then, within those who enjoy both, there would probably be more who would play a Star Wars MMO than a Star Trek MMO.

Again, I know it's speculation, so you tell me, am I bonkers?

(also, the BioWare tag sells better than the Cryptic tag)
