“Case of the Mondays” Cure – Summer of Geek Love

Essence of Summer - 247/365

We’re at the beginning of yet another week, which means yet another set of Monday doldrums. But don’t despair – here’s some things that will brighten your day despite wishing you were in the place in the picture on the right.

-E3 Post Mortem - with the excitement of E3 behind us, it’s time to do all the processing, analysis, and fodder for discussion for the next few months. Traditionally, summer is a light period in game releases (because even geeks get sun sometimes), so in this lull there’s a lot in the news. From Microsoft and Sony’s foray into motion control, to new Mario and Metroid games, to the controversial L4D2 announcement, and more, E3 seemed to go far better than in previous years, and show off more fat to chew.

-Geek TV Catchup - Even with the marvel that is DVR and Tivo, busy geeks who are playing games, going to conventions, and working hard at their day jobs struggle to keep up with their favorite shows. With season finales in the can for many shows, it’s time to fire up those recordings and check out what you’ve missed. Alternatively, with reruns in full swing, take in your favorite eps all over again, even when they make you cringe. This is the time to do it, after all!

-Convention Injection - The start of summer means looking forward to and planning out the next geek event you’re attending. Maybe you’re looking at Comic-Con. How about Penny Arcade Expo? Or for the anime fans out there Otakon and Anime Expo beckon to you. Gencon isn’t that far away either. Now’s the time to start figuring out where you want to travel to bathe in the shared light of many a geek hobby, with people who understand your interests and have hopefully showered regularly. Get out those calendars!

So now that you’ve got your pick-me-up for today, get out there and enjoy the first real week in the summer months!

Plus, with the midseason TV programme being as lame as it is, you'll have all the more time to catch up on actually good TV shows! :-P
